Not THAT much photos to show as today was almost completely spent with friend. We met around 11AM and I left them around 21:30. Then over hour spent on train. Got home quite late.
Near the station we were to meet was this pretty looking hill. Instantly started to wonder how it would be to climb there :D
First order of business we had was lunch. Or actually before that we went and bought myself a hat to combat the heat! After that to dinner. Original plan had been eat at their place but change of plans and we had instead lunch at restaurant. Quite popular restaurant at that. CROWDEEED!
This iw what I mostly was eating from. That's some....Fish heads! Haha. You don't luckily eat them like that! Oh no. You just take out meat out from inside. Quite good but boy does it take time to separate all the meat from bones.
Some more plates which I got to taste a bit as well.
Daughter of my friend has grown soooo much. First time I met she was still quite young and didn't talk that much with me(a little bit but apart from being at the age not yet that good talker yet she obviously was bit nervous with me(what with being foreigner she meets first time!). Second time lot more talkative and this time she was also readily starting up conversation with me.
Think she might also grow quite tall one at that...
After this we went to place where you can do fish paste "cakes" etc. Above is some sort of "spin a wheel and look at small gaps to see animation" thing they had there.
This is official photo. They took photos of people and you could buy one if you want. Me? Want photo of this? Hell yeah! Cencored other people out.
The fist paste thing making looks easy(pro was doing swoosh-swaash-done) but boy it was hard!
Result of the first batch we did. Fist paste over wooden block and then guess it was frozen in refridgerator?
Taste is not exactly bad but guess I prefer the cooked version. And makes you very thirsty! Better to have something to drink with you(well right now better to have drink you all the time! Damn heat!)
This is second version we did(one per person). Basically idea was to make flat square out of the paste and then roll stick over it. Very hard to keep the paste together while rolling. Easier way is is to apply it by hand and make shape with it but I tried hard way. And got it somehow though needed bit patching with hands. Taste was better with this one. The little girl loves this so guess it was extra fun for her to get to eat one she has done herself :D
While waiting for handing of results we had about hour to kill so headed for some sort of exhibition/store of these stuff(kamaboko(first one) and chikuwa(second one)). Lots of stuff related to those there!
Another nice hill(wanna cliiiimb!) and interesting looking building on the way.
Outside the place we were going had this riksha ride experience chance for free. I rode with the little girl. Poor guy having to carry me around on that cart! Sorry! :D
With this done we picked our kamaboko's and chikuwa's and headed back to their home. More food, lots and lots of talking and lots of games with the girl. We discussed a lot about my Fuji mountain climb and on their recommendations changed plans a bit. I had planned to go through Gotemba 5th station but it's hardest and least used so if something bad WOULD happen(like break my leg) odds would be good that I wouldn't be getting help soon. Also climbing through night might be bit(as in lot) hard without sleep so with help of friends(sorry about the trouble!) we got myself a place to sleep near the top.
This caused quite a time schedule changes. Checkin to the "hotel" at the top would be preferably somewhere around 6-7pm so I need to wake up EARLY to get to new 5th station starting point at decent time. I'll sleep at the place until around 1AM or so and continue my way to the top. Then back to down. Maybe down I'll take the Gotemba route. It's popular downway road(downward and upward routes different. That's why despite DOWNWARD route being popular going UPWARD you aren't seeing many people) and further plans go from there.
I also got to play lots of games with the little girl. In one we shuffle up cubes with hiragana's and then try to form up words(nouns). Surprisingly tough to form up words. Got beaten by 6 year old kid! Oh the shame! The infamy!
Second game was one where she would read out story and we would then have to find card that has same hiragana that began the story. I got SLAUGHTERED! I swear she got like twice the cards than I did...I think she knows hiragana/picture combos by heart so could remember positions by the pictures. Sometimes she barely stops reading before reaching for the card.
But quite impressive reading skill for 6 year old one I would think. Don't know that well when Japanese kids learn to read(or Finnish kids for that matter) but ability to read hiragana this well before school feels quite impressive.
Not sure how well *I* read before going to school...And I had to learn like half the letters for that...
Third game was one where we would be forming up different shapes from various forms of wooden blocks. Quite fun. She was quite good. Was funny listening her speaking to herself. "something's weird. this way this way. quite difficult. this one was easy! did it!"
I love playing with kids!
For dessert this "kakigoori" which is basically chopped ice with syrup for taste. This is famous dessert for Japanese summer if you watch any anime or read any manga. Or basically anything summer related from Japan! Taste is okayish(this one was lemon) and the sheer fact it's ICE COLD is heavenly on this weather. Wouldn't be eating in a hurry it wasn't bloody hot but on hot day like a heaven!
Eventually it was late enough that I had to go so headed toward station and there to next train. And first time I ran into LATE RUNNING TRAIN! I swear I have never had THIS happen. Only 6 minutes but boy was I surprised.
Well first time for everything I suppose...
Past midnight so I'll call it a quit for writing. More tomorrow.
